FR Event Success: Body Image and Identity Politics
Last Wednesday (12/09) Fashion Roundtable partnered with The Hox Holborn for our Body Image and Identity Politics Event.
There was a workshop led by Caryn Franklin MBE which decoded the visual language of advertising and fashion imagery to better understand entrenched reactions from the image where women look objectified and men powerful. Caryn said: "fashion imagery washes over you like urban wallpaper."
Our curated pop up shop showcased exciting UK brands: Milk Tooth London showing accessories, Birdsong with a fantastic range of pants embroidered in Manchester, Gather and See with a fantastic edit of sweaters and outerwear and Paradise Row with their fun and ethnical Made in East London handbags.
The panel discussion chaired by Tamara Cincik and live streamed by Jameela Jamil's Instagram page I Weigh live streaming, with Caryn Franklin MBE, Farrah Storr Editor of Cosmpolitan, Chidera Eggerue aka The Slum Flower intersectional feminist and founder of #saggyboobsmatter, Jules Von Hep celebrity spray tanner and body positivity advocate, Grace Woodward TV presenter and stylist, now campaigning on body image awareness across Instagram and Jacob Mallison Bird Drag artist, model and Oxford PHD student, discussed identity and positive body image, with a focus on inclusion, diversity and representation.
On the same week, Tamara has also met with the Whitehall Head of Regeneration for Cities and Local Growth Unit at the Ministry of Housing working on Communities and Local Government to discuss retail and our concerns for the future and some solutions for our high streets.
