Current and Past Activities

Fashion Roundtable wrote the only fashion focused policy reports addressing Brexit impacts on the industry. These led to a media campaign with a reaching over 2.2bn and a meeting with a Government Minister to address these issues.

During the pandemic, as policy advisors to the Emergency Designer Network and British Textile Consortium, we supported the manufacturing and delivery of UK made PPE and worked with the Government advising them on how to effectively roadmap end to end UK made PPE. This led to a commitment by the Prime Minister to source 70% UK made PPE.

Our ‘Representation and Inclusion in the Fashion Industry’ report for the APPG for Textiles and Fashion is the first policy work with a fashion industry focus, addressing the issues and the solutions for a more diverse and inclusive sector. This has received national and international media attention, as well as a creating an industry roadmap to successfully achieve a more diverse business model.

The ‘Cleaning Up Fashion’ report for the APPG for Ethics and Sustainability in Fashion, has been well received by government, parliamentarians and industry leaders. These findings are the basis for sectoral and governmental policy interventions leading to core strategic ambitions for legislative change on ethical and environmental issues as highlighted by stakeholders and civil society organisations across fashion’s global supply chain.

We effectively lobbied for the Environment Audit Committee to reopen its Fixing Fashion review.

Fashion Roundtable worked with the Social Mobility Commission on their latest report for the creative industries: the only organisation from the fashion industry to participate.

Fashion Roundtable successfully lobbied the trade union Bectu, to add union representation for Fashion Assistants and Stylists.

We successfully advocated for all non-UK graduates to be allowed to live and work in the UK post graduation with a two year visa hiatus.

Fashion Roundtable are founding affiliates to The Creative Industries Federation, WRAP Textile 2030, Create Across Europe, The British Retail Consortium Fit To Trade campaign and NSEAD’s STEAM not STEM campaign. We regularly speak at the Westminster Business Forum and at parliamentary select committee meetings and are engaged in activities for COP 26 in November 2021. We collaborate with other APPG secretariats across creative industry, culture, retail, civil society and diversity and inclusion. We sit on a number of forums, including AGM PPP, Centre for Cities, Centre for Towns, Free Move Create, CJC, Garment Supply Chains Working Group.

Currently we are working with partner trade bodies on the VAT Retail Export Scheme and with manufacturers to add garment workers to the Shortage Occupation List.

We are so pleased to finally feel like we can benefit from the support and knowledge of Bectu, which is much needed in this industry.
